A man was asked to paint a boat. He brought with him paint and brushes and began to paint the boat a bright red, as the owner asked him. While painting, he noticed that there was a small hole in the hull, and quietly repaired it. When finished painting, he received his money and left.
The next day, the owner of the boat came to the painter and presented him with a nice cheque, much higher than the payment for painting. The painter was surprised and said "You've already paid me for painting the boat Sir!"
But this is not for the paint job. It's for having repaired the hole in the boat. Ah! But it was such a small service, certainly it's not worth paying me such a high amount for something so insignificant.
"My dear friend, you do not understand. Let me tell you what happened. When I asked you to paint the boat, I forgot to mention about the hole. When the boat dried, my kids took the boat and went on a fishing trip. They did not know that there was a hole. I was not at home at that time.
When I returned and noticed they had taken the boat, I was desperate because I remembered that the boat had a hole. Imagine my relief and joy when I saw them returning from fishing.
Then, I examined the boat and found that you had repaired the hole! You see, now, what you did ? You saved the life of my children! I do not have enough money to pay your small good deed.
So, no matter who, when or how, Just continue to help, sustain, wipe tears, listen attentively and carefully repair all the leaks you find, because you never know when one is in need of us or when God holds a pleasant surprise for us to be helpful and important to someone.
You may have repaired numerous boat holes along the way of several people without realizing how many lives you've saved. So Keep up Good work. I want to thank everyone who repaired my boat this year in every way like good wishes, thoughts, love, care and prayers.
Deciding to implement an ERP system is a big step forward for any business. The idea to implement ERP may arise from any level of the company. It's not only the responsibility of the IT team but the decision and involvement should flow from top management and spread to all levels of the company. Its like renovation of your entire office or business infrastructure. And while the end result will greatly benefit your company, there are some challenges ahead.
First things first, Identify a person who will head the entire project. He or She should be a tech savvy person, preferably a person close to the top management. Then get a core team together and make sure someone from every department is represented. This guarantees that the implementation is equally balanced across the company, allowing everyone to benefit.
Once the core team is in place, its time to start the planning phase. Discuss in detail all the processes of the company which you want to digitize and weave them together in to single ERP software. For example your accounts team could be using a popular ready to use software, marketing team using a different CRM software, production is managed through excel or word documents and HR...
Implementing an ERP can take anywhere between 6 – 9 months. Be honest with your company that this is huge undertaking. In fact, be as transparent as humanly possible. No good can lead to secret meetings behind closed doors.
This is a company wide initiative and all the people needs to be informed about every step of the implementation. Be realistic about the challenges as well as the benefits. Inform and share on message board of your company so that staff gets involved and can ask any questions they may have, give their inputs and help you to bring out a better performing ERP.
Know your processes and document them accordingly. To make things easier we will create a online plug and play site where you can create or edit the type of ERP forms you want to incorporate or upload your voucher and form designs in easy excel and word formats. You will get a feel of the entire ERP at the planning stage before we actually start coding the software.
This whole thing can be an emotional roller coaster, its little like a new relationship. Once you select your new implementation, you’re in the honeymoon phase, eagerly anticipating all the glory that awaits you. But as I said before, this is a long process. The team will feel weighed down by all the responsibilities, there will be some resistance to change. As you approach the launch date, people start getting excited again. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once you go live, new challenges arise, frustration may set in but then everyone adjusts. Soon you will wonder how you ever lived without your new ERP system.
Hopefully this post gives you some insight into what it takes to prepare for a new implementation. It’s a big job and should be treated as such. Just remember, our team at Viswa Books is here to help you with every stage of the project.
Welcome aboard, start your project today !
Balance sheet and Income statements are fiction. Cash flow is reality. Never take your eyes off the cash flow, because it's the lifeline of the business.
It feels very good and gives confident to have a great vision for a startup. Vision lives inside the mind and Reality lives in the outside world. Both forces of nature are equally powerful. Vision is like daylight and Reality is like a night. Whether you like it or not, but we have to pass through both the forces in everyday life. Vision is like your car’s headlight in a dark night road trip.
Whether you are in a product or service industry, you need to follow some thumb rules to successfully sail your startup. I believe competition doesn’t exist in real world. When God has given hunger as a basic need for all living being, then there are plenty of food variety is also available in the same world. All we need to learn in life is wise management of available resources.
You should have hands on experience and practical working knowledge of all concerned departments before you step into leading role into your organisation. The major departments of any organisation whether its a one man proprietorship firm or an multinational company are Admin, Accounts, Finance, Sales, Purchase, HR and production ( for manufacturers ).
